Our main off dock facility contains over 160,000 sq. ft. of warehouse space and a fully serviced container storage and handling yard. This facility has direct access to our Toronto and Montreal facilities via Canada’s cross-country railway system and to all major ports in BC’s Lower Mainland.
Our experienced freight handlers are proficient at de-stuffing, re-organizing and consolidating shipments for destination points all across Canada. Ryder Container Terminals uses the latest freight handling equipment to optimize efficiencies.
Ryder Container Terminals also specializes in arranging and forwarding export shipments. Our Triangulation program utilizes our on-site container stock to ensure cost effective loading. We can also perform the domestic leg of your export needs and will deliver to any of BC’s Lower Mainland ports (See CMS).
Ryder Container Terminals can handle most shipment types and can perform all of our services from one or all of our locations across Canada. Furthermore, our partnerships with trusted cartage companies assure timely and secure cargo forwarding.
In our Port Coquitlam office, we have customs clerks who specialize in Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA) paperwork. Our Brampton office is the CBSA central examination facility for the Greater Toronto Area.

Cartage Management Services
In 2000, we formed our Cartage Management Services (CMS) division. This division ensures quick and efficient cargo delivery. CMS accurately controls drayage timing of import containers from the Vancouver docks to our facility.
By timing container drayage, we are better able to regulate cargo transload times. This helps to maintain a fast and consistent cargo turnaround for our customers and partners.
We have since formalized our Triangulation process, so we can now offer all customers the full benefit of efficient container management. Today, we operate a consistent Triangulation program that has helped to strengthen our import and export capabilities. Back to top
Container Triangulation
The idea behind Triangulation is quite simple, and yet, it is a highly cost effective process. Triangulation reduces the number of drayage legs in a container’s cycle, ultimately reducing customer costs.
Not Triangulated: When not using triangulation, ocean lines must store their containers in an off dock empty-container yard. This adds an extra, costly drayage leg. It also increases gate volume at these already congested storage yards.
A typical container has 4 drayage legs in its shipping cycle:
Leg 1: from the dock to unloading facility as an import container.
Leg 2: from unloading facility back to an empty container storage facility.
Leg 3: from the empty container to export load facility as an empty container.
Leg 4: from export load facility to the dock as an export loaded container.
Triangulation Scenario 1:
We receive a steady supply of containers from our import customers. Once emptied, we may immediately use these containers to load our export customers’ freight. We then ship these containers to the appropriate dock for vessel loading.
There are 2 drayage legs in these containers’ shipping cycle:
Leg 1: from the dock to Ryder Container Terminals as an import container.
Leg 2: from Ryder Container Terminals to the dock as an export loaded container.
In this case, we only dray the container between the dock and our facility. With only two drayage legs, the container movement is at its lowest. We have dramatically reduced your costs.
Triangulation Scenario 2:
Many customers choose to have our emptied containers drayed to their own export facility for loading. Using our CMS, we dray containers from our facility to your export-loading site and then to the appropriate dock for export.
There are 3 drayage legs in these containers’ shipping cycle:
Leg 1: from the dock to Ryder Container Terminals as an import container.
Leg 2: from Ryder Container Terminals to an export load facility as an empty container.
Leg 3: from the export load facility to the dock as an export loaded container.
By limiting the number of drayage legs, both import and export customers are able to enjoy reduced costs. For over 9 years, we have proven Triangulation to be the most effective way of driving costs out of container movement.
As an added benefit, Triangulation lessens environmental pollutants. Fewer truck moves means reduced road traffic and exhaust emissions. This helps you to stay green while still cutting costs for your business. Back to top
Distribution / Inventory Management
A well-organized and executed distribution system is the key to moving your product smoothly to your customers. We can design and deliver a distribution system that streamlines your entire process.
We provide a wide range of inventory services. These include breaking down multi-destination shipments for rerouting, as well as arranging condensed cargo for bulk deliveries. Let us organize and deliver your goods so they arrive pre-sorted and ready for intake.
We can also maintain a weekly or monthly inventory of your shipped goods. You can avoid many unnecessary headaches by letting us keep a detailed catalogue of your shipments. Over time, this will save you a great deal of money and energy. Back to top
Container Yard
Our main container yard is located on a 17-acre site in Port Coquitlam, BC. As a Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA) registered sufferance facility, this site is fully fenced and has 24-hour security surveillance.
We are able to process a high volume of containers with our two 60,000 lbs capacity Top Pick container handlers. We temporarily hold emptied marine containers in our yard before using them for export loading. We return any surplus empty containers to the off dock container yard used by the ocean lines.
Our Ocean Line partners benefit from an Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) relationship where we use this technology to update our various ocean lines inventory. As a result, our ocean line partners can better manage their container equipment that flows through our container yard. Back to top
Warehousing
Our Port Coquitlam facility has a versatile 160,000 sq. ft building with 109 loading doors. This secure CBSA registered sufferance facility guarantees you safe and convenient short-term storage and transloading services.
If it is held in containers, then we are able to service it. We designed this warehouse for the efficient transloading of almost any product. Textiles, consumer goods, and industrial machinery are just a few of the products we handle in our warehouse.
Furthermore, our facility contains a convenient in-building rail siding. This makes forwarding your export products faster and easier than ever.
Our experienced handlers are trained to use the most up-to-date equipment, including the latest model Lift Trucks, Top Pick container handlers, and Yard Tractors. Back to top
